Romy, The Jeweller

IMG_9968 2.HEIC

I am a jeweller who primarily works in wax, most specifically wax carving, which is then cast in silver to create modern, fresh pieces. They draw upon historical, traditional, and aesthetically interesting themes through the medium of wax which lends itself to the creation of intricate and detailed forms replicating miniatures of curiosities. This medium is also used in combination with self-fabrication methods, hand engraving, patination methods and texturing to help bring my ideas to life.

Thematically, I enjoy delving into ideas and concepts which explore the contrast between the bright and beautiful with the darker elements. This notion lends itself to the creation of clear imagery to represent and communicate these ideas through my jewellery. I have found visual and thematic clarity is integral to my work as it helps to create deepened meaning and understanding of my ideas. My pieces of jewellery often strike a delicate balance between these intricate forms and contemporary, full and clean forms. This creates an interesting style which demands to be seen yet can still be habitually worn as part of one’s everyday jewellery.
